As soon as we reach Lukla our trek begins.  As the trek to Phakding along Dudh Koshi River Valley begins, the sights of beautifully painted stone mani walls manifest Khumbu culture. The views of Himalayan peaks Kusum Khangkaru and Kongde Ri brings us closer to high altitude nature. A short introductory trek of 3 to 4 hours will bring us to Phakding, which is the home to 500 years old Pemacholing Monastery.  Overnight on local teahouse in full board basis.

Day 05: Rest day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization

We have already reached the altitude of 3440m; hence a day rest to get customized with high altitude is essential. However, we will walk to nearby hotspots around Namche that helps acclimatization and offers an opportunity of cultural exploration. Overnight in Namche.

Day 06:: Trek to Thame 4,380m/14,370ft

Exiting north-west of Namche through the pine forests and rare settlements we head towards Thame. The trek to Thame offers views of beautiful lines of mani walls painted on the cliffs. The trek to Thame rewards with the deep river valley below and the sky-touching snowy peaks above.  As we reach Thame after a hike of almost four hours we check into the teahouse and set off to explore the monastery. Towering Himalayan peaks including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang and Makalu among others feast our eyes from the top of Gokyo Ri. After the breakfast, we head towards Thangnak via the trails along Ngozumpa glacier. It is short trek and we arrive to destination at lunch time as it difficult- to walk through glacial trails during ice melting sunshine. Overnight in a teahouse at Thangnak.

The first tough day of the trek is here. We begin the trek with the uphill climb east that takes us to glacial section. Careful walk is required as the route is slippery here. Keep on climbing high until we reach the top of Cho La Pass. The exceptional views of Mt. Amadablam and Mt. Cholatse are the biggest rewards from the top of Cho La Pass. Now the route to Dzongla is downhill. However, it is challenging enough with crevasses and icy sections. Use of crampons is suggested. After a long tiring walk we arrive to Dzongla. Overnight in Dzongla.

Today, trekking across the icy trails over Khumbu Glacier, Everest Three Passes Trek heads towards Chhukung. However, getting to Chhukung isn’t an easy task. We need to get to the highest point of the trek and that too along the most difficult section. Trekking uphill along the dicey slippery trail we reach the top of Kongma La Pass. From the top of the pass we savor the views of Himalayan giants including Everest. Island Peak from here looks exceedingly beautiful. Then we begin to drop down.
